Jeep Commander’s robust Electronic Stability Program (ESP)(1) includes Electronic Roll Mitigation (ERM), an antilock brake system (ABS), Brake Assist and the new Trailer Sway Control (TSC), all working together to help you and your trailer load safely reach your destination. When the network of ESP sensors detect that you’re veering off your intended path, this comprehensive system automatically initiates braking action to stabilize the trailer and help keep you moving safely forward. Hill Start Assist (HSA) and Hill Descent Control (HDC) are new available features that employ automatic braking to help get you safely up and down the mountain.

Jeep Commander Limited delivers the unique Go Anywhere, Do AnythingTM Jeep vehicle experience with unlimited attitude. Chrome exterior accents include a gleaming seven-slot grille, roof rack side rails, bodyside moldings, front fascia and license plate brow. The standard SmartBeamTM 
intelligent headlamp system automatically and quickly adjusts high-beam brightness and intensity, depending on your surrounding light sources. Commander Limited’s available Quadra-Drive II four-wheel-drive system benefits from advanced Electronic Limited-Slip Differentials (ELSD) that help transfer power to any one wheel within a fraction of a second should wheel slippage be detected. That means you can easily conquer difficult road and trail conditions that leave the wheels of other, less capable, systems spinning in their tracks.

The 2008 Jeep Commander has three available 4x4 systems that offer varying degrees of on-road ability and off-road mastery. Standard full-time Quadra-Trac I 4WD is an always-on system. It transparently transfers power to wheels with the most traction. Available Quadra-Trac II 4WD offers a full-time high- and part-time low-range 4x4 system. Its innovative all-speed traction control can detect wheel slippage and send up to 100 percent of the available torque to the axle with the most traction. In low gear, this system delivers maximum torque off-road. Available Quadra-Drive II 4WD is a full-time high- and part-time low-range 4x4 system with front and rear Electronic Limited-Slip Differentials (ELSD). The ELSD feature can quickly shift up to 100 percent of available torque to any one of the four wheels with the best traction.

The legendary 5.7L HEMI V8 engine with Multi-Displacement System (MDS) provides a one-two punch of 330 hp and ingenious economy.(1) The MDS seamlessly deactivates four cylinders when cruising between 40 and 60 mph and, by doing so, offers increased fuel efficiency.(1) Standard on Commander Overland and available on Limited. Commander’s choices continue to impress with a new 4.7L V8 engine. This workhorse has been designed to run on unleaded gasoline, ecologically friendly E85, or any combination — without compromising its powerful performance of 305 hp and 334 lb-ft of torque. This strong performer is standard on Limited and available on Sport. Tried and true and perfectly capable of empowering the most far-reaching pursuits, the 3.7L V6 engine showcases durability and efficiency(2) in a compact, 210-hp package. It is worthy of standard equipment status on Sport.
