Clark ECS 17-30

This manual covers trucks with capacities from 3500 pounds through 6000 pounds. CLARK lift trucks are built to take hard work, but not abuse. They are built to be dependable, but they are only as safe and efficient as the operator and the persons responsible for maintaining them. Do not make any repairs to this truck unless you have been trained in safe lift truck repair procedures and are authorized by your employer. Operating Hazards
This Section shows some of the hazards that may cause you, or someone around you, to be killed or badly hurt. As the operator, you must look for other hazards. Getyoursupervisorto help you identify and avoid those hazards.

Other safety and warning decals are placed in various conspicuous locations on the truck. Decals are provided to remind you of essential procedures orto prevent you from making an error which could damage the truck or possibly cause personal injury. It is important that you know, understand, and follow these instructions. Safety and warning decals should be replaced immediately if missing or defaced (damaged or illegible). Refer to the Service Manual for location of all decals.

Main Hydraulic System
The main hydraulic system consists of a hydraulic sump tank, main hydraulic pump andmotor, maincontrol valve, andassociated hydraulic lines and hoses. The hydraulic sump is aseparate, removable tank inthe right-hand side compartment of the truck frame. Oil from the hydraulic sump is fed by a gear pump to the main control valve. Fromthe main control valve, the oil isdirected to the lift cylinders, tilt cylinders, or back to the sump. Filtration ofthe main hydraulicsystem oil isprovidedthrough aspin-on, full-flow return line filter inthe steering circuit.

Concluding the Inspection
Make a record on the "Driver's Daily Checklist" of all the operating and truck problems that youfind. Reviewthe checklistto besure it has been completed and turn it in to the person responsible for lift truck maintenance. Be sure any unusual noises or problems are investigated immediately.

Using the Diagnostic Display
If your truck has the Diagnostic Display, "8888" should display on the digital readout for about one second after you turnthe key switch to ON. This indicates that the digital readout is OK. Then, either the battery symbol or the wrench symbol light should come on. If the battery symbol light comes on, the digital readout shows the percentage of charge remaining on the battery. When the remaining charge registers as 20% or less, the readout flashes. At 10% remaining charge, the lift and tilt functions become inoperable. If the wrench symbol comes on, a fault code appears on the digital readout. The fault code may indicate an easily correctable "operator fault" or it may indicate that you need to have the truck serviced. If you see a fault code, use the table below as a guide. Codes -01 through -06 are usually the operator fault codes. Any other code is a service code.

After Operating the Truck
Always leave your lift truck Inasafe condition. Whenyou leaveyour truck, or park it, follow these safety rules:

  1. Park in a safe area away from norma
  2. Never park on a grade.
  3. Never park in areas that block emergency routes or equipment, access to fire aisles, or stairways and fire equipment.

Planned Maintenance Intervals
Typical Operating Conditions Time intervals between maintenances are largely determined byoperating conditions. For example, operation in sandy, dusty locations requires shorter maintenance intervals than operation in clean warehouses. The indicated intervals are intended for normal operation. The following operating conditions are defined:

  • Normal Operation: Basically, eight-hour material handling, mostly in buildings or in clean, open air on clean paved surfaces.
  • Severe Operation: Prolonged operating hours or constant usage.
